Updated: Apr 16, 2022

In these days of e-commerce, it's easy to find the technical details you need when purchasing a home appliance, but we bet you weren't aware of some of the fun facts about appliances we've put together for this post. Learn a little more about the history, design, and features of some familiar items with these little-known facts about home and kitchen appliances

The Electric Range With Cooktop Starred in a World-Famous Event

Gas kitchen ranges were available in the nineteenth century. The electric range didn't debut until the Chicago World's Fair's celebration of electricity display in 1893. But it wasn't until the late 1920s or early 1930s that electric became competitive with gas as a power source for these kitchen appliances.

Here's another little-known fact concerning the name of this home appliance:

The term "range" was coined when this type of kitchen appliance was created because it included both oven and cooktops - burners or flat surfaces for cooking food items in pots and pans. Thus it offered a range of options for food preparation.

A Range Hood can Increase Your Home's Value Significantly

Here's a great reason to invest in a hood for your kitchen range - if having a cleaner home by evicting steam and grease - and sparing dinner guests the discomfort of unpleasant cooking odors - isn't convincing enough.

Though often overlooked, kitchen range hoods are essential - and valuable fixtures. Having a range hood, in addition to the standard kitchen appliances like refrigerator and range, can increase the likelihood a home will sell promptly, and at a higher price. Major players in the real estate business note the fact that putting a hood above a kitchen range completes the look and function of an attractive, modern kitchen.
